ALFRED Maritime launches an AI-powered platform for passenger vessels to complement MEMS

The ALFRED AI platform is now available for customers. The product can be fully integrated into the flagship product, the Meyer Energy Management System (MEMS), co-developed with Meyer Turku. The AI-product is equipped with superior reasoning capabilities and user experience. We believe there is no comparable platform available that gives advisory for energy efficiency in such a sophisticated manner.

Our first steps with AI started at the end of 2024. We built several prototypes for different purposes. First customer presentations and testing took place in 2025. In April 2026, we finally presented our first AI voyage summary agent at Seatrade in Miami. Together with Meyer Turku Energy Efficiency team as sparring partner, the new platform has been widely expanded. The capabilities go beyond summarization into reasoning across ship systems. In collaboration with the shipyard, the AI underwent extensive testing and validation

“While we already presented AI functionality to some customers in 2025, we were still unsure about the model’s answers. It took us a lot of sweat and tears to advance to the stage where we fully believe in it. That stage is now reached!” Paul Meyer, Managing Director.

ALFRED AI incorporates sensor data and ship domain knowledge to deliver a unique user experience. Sensor data is processed and tagged with our standardization approach. We came up with a special process to codify ship domain knowledge and use it in the reasoning process of the model. Shipyard experts helped to include causal relationships and relevant component information that became part of reasoning process. The ruleset we built in makes sure that unrestricted or invalid questions cannot be asked. Next to a special UI and an AI-specific backend which propagates the data to the model, many other architectural features were developed to make this vision come true.

ALFRED AI and Meyer Energy Management System (MEMS) complement each other. This is another step forward to digitalize fleet operations and advance energy efficiency, compliance, safety, and maintenance for onboard and onshore teams.

In the coming weeks, we would like to reveal more details about the product. Stay tuned.
