We are looking for a technically skilled Marine Energy Data Engineer with a background in naval architecture or marine engineering who is interested in the application of machine learning and AI in the maritime space. This role bridges the gap between traditional marine engineering and modern data-driven decision-making. You will work analyzing and collecting energy-related data from vessels, machinery systems, and marine operations to support optimization, sustainability, and compliance initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze energy consumption and performance data from shipboard systems (e.g., propulsion, HVAC, auxiliary machinery)
- Act as a subject matter expert for marine engineering for our data scientists, software engineers and hardware engineers
- Work with developers to develop our marine data pipeline (e.g., noon reports, sensor data, fuel logs)
- Collaborate with naval architects, fleet managers, and sustainability teams to identify energy efficiency opportunities.
- Build tools and dashboards for monitoring vessel performance, emissions, and regulatory compliance (e.g., CII, EEXI).
- Support the automation of reporting and alerting systems for anomalies or inefficiencies
- Contribute to R&D and business development projects involving digital twins, voyage optimization, predictive maintenance or alternative fuels
We offer:
- Be part of a AI-first team
- Fast moving start up culture
- Flexible working times and hybrid working (onsite in Hamburg or Papenburg & remote)
- Coporate benefits (Employee portal, Public services ticket)
- Opportunity for education in the field of maritime digitalization and engineering with real world data
Required Qualification:
- Bachelor or Master Degree in Naval Architecture, Marine / Ocean Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or other related field
- Familiarity with marine energy systems, ship performance metrics, and IMO regulations.
- Basic understanding of sensor data, telemetry, or shipboard automation systems
- Knowledge of maritime digitalization trends (e.g., smart shipping, condition-based monitoring).
Prefered Skills
- Knowledge and experience with Python, SQL, and data analysis libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, Matplotlib)
- Basic understanding of data modeling, ETL processes, and API integration
- Familiarity with machine learning or statistical modeling for predictive maintenance or fuel optimization
- Experience with marine software tools
We are looking forward to your application.
